This morning I was shaken to the core. I was on the way to the work and was part way into the intersection to turn left. The light turned yellow, cars were still coming. I waited. The light turned red, two lanes of traffic stopped and I proceeded to turn left.
I turned, passed the two lanes of stopped cars, when a semi, in the last lane decided to run the red light. I had just started to accelerate and stil wasn’t going very fast, but he was going full speed.
Time slowed as I slammed my foot on the gas. I couldn’t seem to get the car to go any faster. I watched as this speeding semi didn’t even attempt to slow down… and all I could think about was my boys, especially Kelton who was on that side of the car, and my intense panic to get through the intersection. We avoided an accident by inches.
I am still shaking and can’t get that image of the speeding semi aimed right at my boys. Life was instantly and dramatically put back into perspective for me. Life is short. Life is precious. Life is random. Life is amazing.
