Taming the Beast
January 7, 2011

Ok, so he isn’t a beast, but still, it works.

Bear is my special kiddo that really runs off of adrenaline. In fact, as we speak, he is upstairs, in bed, completely wide awake and staring at the ceiling because he just can’t get to sleep. We run into that problem every once in a while. However, I have found something that works amazing wonders on this kid…… Windows Media Player.

I can only liken this to his own personal laser show. I often times will open up an MP3 file and let it play. However, I learned a few weeks ago that opening songs using Windows Media Player unleashes this pretty spectacular digital light display. Well, it is pretty spectacular when you are six and don’t have T.V. in your house.

He will sit and look at that screen and not blink for what seems like minutes at a time. He has noticed that the patterns of the animation twist and turn with the beat and volume of the music. He notices the gradation of colors and the swirl patterns that they make.

Watching him watch the computer fascinates me. I wonder if I just sat him there, how long he would stay transfixed. Imagine how much I could get done with using my blackened computer monitor as his entertainment. Hmmmmmm….. the possibilities.

Cute Boy! I am so glad to be living in this time. What would the pioneers done with these special kids?
