I met with the orthopedic surgeon today. My MRI showed a rotator cuff tear and a SLAP tear. As is common with these injuries, they send you to physical therapy to see if it helps. With most people, this proves to be beneficial. However with a very select few, it makes it worse. I just happen to fall into that second category.
The surgeon said that there’s no way to avoid surgery on this one. Unfortunately, the slap tear is so severe that he can’t even assess how bad the rotator cuff tear I might be. My range of motion has because very limited, and they aren’t able to get my arm into positions to diagnose the severity of the rotator cuff. They will have to wait until they are fixing the SLAP tear, and decide on the surgery proceedings at that time. Both will be repaired at the same time though.
The surgeon said that it is a wicked surgery and recovery. He said anticipate screws and plates. Recovery will mean at least 2 months in a bolstered sling and at least 6 months physical therapy after that. I’m blessed to have an AMAZING surgeon, and have full confidence in him.
I had the MRI on my wrist yesterday. Results will be in tomorrow and we will know if surgery is required on the wrist as well. If so, hopefully we can get it all done at same time.
Anyway, those are my plans for this summer! What fun things are you guys planning? LOL!
