For the last several years, my parents have really gone out of their way to give us great Christmas gifts. Three years ago we got a really souped up BBQ grill. Two years ago we received an outdoor fireplace. Last year, my parents had Costco deliver our gift, another outdoor fire thing. This one however has lava rocks on top and and has the fire coming up through the middle of the rocks. Pretty cool. On Tuesday, we finally got it out of the box and set up. I had activity days with the girls and we decided to make s’mores. Everyone came over and we ended up doing them here at the house. What an awesome activity to do with Spring Fevered 8 -12 years old that have obviously had more than their fare share of sugar over the last week or so of school. We had to cap the girls off at three each. I am just glad that they liked it.
On a whim, my parents stopped by my house that same night. They were on their way home from my cousin’s wedding reception and decided to stop in to say hi (I LOVE it when they do that.) So anxious to show off the fact that I was using their gift, I dragged them outside against their will to have them sit at our picnic table and stare at the little fire. After a few minutes of pleading, I got them to sit and roast the marshmallows with the kiddos. Everyone actually ended up having a great time.
Let me share with you the secret to making GREAT S’mores. My dad taught me this not too long ago. You use the chocolate graham crackers and the big, monster chocolate bars that they sell at Christmastime for $1 at the grocery store. My friend Toni also showed me that the chocolate melts better if you shove the chocolate inside of the melted marshmallow. I don’t know. Give it some thought!

I shall have to check out your smore cooking skills. I personally like to use fudge strip cookies and marshmallows. I am just not talented enough to balance 3 items together apparently.
It looks like so much fun!
