My favorite wedding gift was from my mom’s best friend, Denise. She has been just like an aunt to me my entire life. When I got married, I recieved the cutest idea ever. She gave me a picnic basket with cider and cheese, a picnic blanket and a recipe box. I thought that it was a cute idea when I opened the gift but, was thrilled when I actually opened the recipe box.
Inside the box was about 50 of Denise’s favorite recipes, copied onto cute recipe cards and laminated. Now, this family is full of AMAZING chefs. Yes, I do mean full on chefs. So, I knew that any recipe that was in this box would be absolutely amazing. The gift at that time skyrocketed onto the top ten list of greatest gifts of all times.
Since then, anytime that I find a recipe that I love, I copy it down and it goes into the box. I have recieps from all sorts of friends and family. I have everything from shrimp scampi and lime margarita chicken fajitas to homemade ice cream and my grandmother’s tamale pie. I absolutely love that I can go to that box, close my eyes, pull out any recipe and know that it will be great! If I find a recipe in a cookbook or online that I love, I copy it down and put it in the box. Even though I know that I could find it sometime later on.
Anyway, pointless but, I wanted to share.

That is one of the coolest wedding gifts I have ever heard of. I would love to be able to do that, but first I would have to get all my recipes written down rather than just pieces of paper in a folder.
I use Allrecipes too! It is great and yes you are a wonderful cook!!!
I too received a recipe box when I got married! It was from my step mom who threw a shower for me. What I didn't know is that she asked each of the guests to bring a copy of their favorite recipe to the shower for the box. I still have it, use it and LOVE it!
Thank you for the website tip! I'm always up for new ideas!
=)
What a great gift! I love your cute recipe box. When I went off to college I looked everywhere for one like that. I finally settled for a really hideous and generic plastic box made for 3×5 cards — so I have to use index cards for my recipes. Seeing yours might be motivation enough for me to go buy something decent 🙂
