When Nena turned two, we started taking her to the Nutcracker. We were very lucky and had a neighbor that got tickets through her work, but had no desire to go see the ballet. So, she would get the tickets and give them to us. At first I thought that two years old might be a little young to take someone to the ballet, but Nena LOVED it. We have managed to keep the tradition going even after we stopped getting free tickets.
Last year Nena went with her dad and grandma and I got to have an evening out with my boys. This year Grandma decided to go out of town for Christmas (at the last minute) so Bear was invited to go. I was hesitant to let him go because he really has a hard time remaining calm after about 6:00 p.m. I was told though, that he did a great job!
Nena’s favorite part of the whole ballet is the Baby Baffoons. She loves those little dancers that peek out from underneath that giant skirt.
Bear on the other hand, loved….. the mouse war! He was a bit concerned and we had a bit of a Q&A session when he returned home that night.
I will say that I am very grateful that my children have the opportunity to get out every once in a while and experience something out of the ordinary. I hope that they will remember this time in their lives as being one of magic and wonder.
