I have to vent and since you are now reading this first sentence you are OBLIGATED to listen 🙂 Don’t you just like my new take charge attitude.
Several weeks ago, I blogged that I was thrilled that I was able to get a surgery to help correct my hearing. I am really excited to get part of my hearing back. I scheduled the surgery for next Wednesday (17th) because it better accommodated my schedule. Meaning that the kids would be in school all week so I didn’t need to care for them. Their dad was going to be able to pick them up after school and stay with Toad on the day of my surgery and it was his weekend with them anyway. That would give me the time to recover and the kids wouldn’t have to deal with their cranky post op mom. Best for all of those surrounding us.
A couple of weeks ago, I got a call from the doctor’s office asking me if I would be amenable to switching to the 10th. However, this week looks like this: Short day Thursday, Parent Teacher Conferences Thursday, no school Friday, neighborhood playgroup at my house Friday, and the kiddos are with me this weekend. Plus, I didn’t have anyone that was available to take me to the hospital. So I politely told them that it just wouldn’t work for me. They told me no problem and that they would work it out on their end.
So, I went about my business and decided that this week, I would take the time this week to move the boys to share a room, move the extra bed to Nena’s room, move the toy room from the basement to the now extra bedroom, and go through my fabric once again for another great overhaul. I decided this week, because for 6 weeks after the surgery I won’t be able to lift or bend at all. Amazing the things that put pressure on your ears. So, if it was going to be done before the holidays, this was my only chance. My house is actively getting a great, brand new look, but looks like this:
But will shortly look like this:
Ironically enough, I had it worked out so that the house would to be back to order by late Wednesday as to enjoy the rest of the weekend with the kids.
Fast forward to about 1/2 hour ago. I get a call from the hospital to talk to me about my pre-op stuff (have to make sure that have all of the numbers right so that they can bill me $$$$$$.) I casually mention that this was the earliest that I have ever been called concerning a surgery. She chuckled and says, “Well, we can’t call you the day of.” My mind did a sharp little turn to the left and I replied, “My surgery is scheduled for next week.” I knew it was and everyone else around me does.
“No hun (I really don’t like that word,) we have you down for this Wednesday.” Ummmmm ok. After explaining my prior conversation with the doctor’s assistant, she quickly assured me that it happens all the time that doctors change appointments and don’t let the hospitals know. Well, that is efficient isn’t it. I mentioned that I would double check with the ENT to make sure. She told me about 4 times that that would be unnecessary and that she was sure that it would all be ok.
So, slightly comforted (NOT), I hung up and immediately panicked and called the ENT office. Of course the secretary informed me that I have to leave a message with the receptionist and wait for the P.A. to call me back. Even if they are standing toe to toe, that is the procedure. However, she did confirm, to my dismay, that the surgery is indeed scheduled for this week and not next. However, she very kindly takes my name and phone number. I kindly, but firmly asked to be called on my CELL phone since I am mostly DEAF in one ear and can’t HEAR my home phone. Thus, the reason for the surgery.
So, I put my phone in my pocket and proceed to start moving furniture (since I won’t be able to until nearly Christmas) and wait. After about 20 minutes, no response. I check my home phone ID. Yep,one missed call. She called me on my home phone. GRRRRRR! Come on, can’t we all just work together. So, I call the office and ask speak directly to the P.A. and explained that even though I understand the protocol phone tree, that this phone tag would continue all day unless I talk to her. Miss Secretary, must have heard my plea and went to go find Miss P.A. When a voice came on the other end of the phone, it was that she was out to lunch!!!!!!!!
I guess that today is just not my day.
