Finally, after 6 weeks of being in the most uncomfortable sling of all time, I am FREE! I visited with my doctor yesterday and was told I could ditch the sling. I am THRILLED. He told me that I will probably want to use it on occassion, as it is going to continue to hurt like crazy, but I don’t need to use the bolster.
He checked my range of motion and asked how I felt. Holy cow! I actually screamed in pain. It is insane how much range of motion I have lost I can barely move my arm at all, and to have a doctor manipulate it into weird positions about killed me.
After a few moments of discussion, he suggested that I take the next few weeks off from work and just let it rest being outside of the sling. However, I asked for a bit of an exception. I only have a few weeks left of work and making sub plans has been driving me insane. Plus, as much as I love the sub that was helping me, she didn’t speak Spansih and teaching a subject that you are unfamiliar with (especially a language) is super tough.
One other thought that I had was that as long as I am home from work, I am getting paid through Workman’s compensation fund. That is great that I still get paid, but unfortunately, it is only 60% of my salary. I was afraid that if I finished off the year on workman’s comp, that I would get paid for the entire summer on workman’s comp. That would be too hard on my pocketbook.
So, today, I am back at school and loaded up on tylenol and ibuprophen. I am completely unable to do much other than talk to them. So, we are capturing attention and watching a movie… in Spanish… with English subtitles. Yep. I am taking the easy way on this one. The kids love it though and haven’t made a sound. Fingers are super crossed that the next three weeks fly by fast.
