When I do a makeup application on someone, I almost always talk through the application with the client. Most people love hearing what is happening in real time. I keep getting the suggestion to put together a list of what I consider to my favorite tips. Along the way, I will share with you my current top favorites. Here we go!
To keep your skin even when applyng any sort of a foundation on your face (powder, cream or liquid,) put a face primer on first. Using a primer evens out the skin and give you a smooth even canvas to work on. There are lots of good ones out there. Here are some of my favorites. Yes, two of them aren’t meant to be a primer, but is amazing at it.
To avoid the mask look as you are putting on your face, use a brush or a beauty sponge. I use both tools interchangeably, depending on the foundation. Also, when you are applying your foundation, cover everything on your face. Go over your ears, on your jawline and taper down your neck. I even drag it over my lips as well. These right now are my top 4.
If you place eye shadow directly on your naked eyelids, it will crease and wear off during the day. In order to avoid this, you need to use an eyelid primer. There are a lot of really good options out there. If you are stumped, you can even use an under eye concealer. Make sure you a shade lighter than your skin in order to keep your eyes looking bright.
I love eyeliner. It is one of my favorite parts of my routine. I have found that using a wing on the side of the eye, it lifts your eyes and makes you look younger. It draws people’s eyes upward taking years off your face and giving you a lifted look. I like using a felt tip liquid liner for the top lip. Keep it simple on the bottom lash line with shadow
As we age, our eyebrows lose color and fullness. Filling them in with a pencil or palmade makes a huge difference in helping you look younger and making your eyes pop. This one addition to my makeup routine has made a world of difference. I rarely go out without having my eyebrows lightly penciled in.
I found a few years ago that my mascara was flaking off and giving me raccoon eyes. No matter what mascara I used, it would wear off and look patchy within a couple of hours. Eyelash primer is the BOMB when it comes to fixing this problem. It helps extend the lashes and makes them look fuller as well.
If you use a powder, use it sparingly as I find that powders make maturing skin look older and sinks into the creases. So, one way to help combat that is to finish off your look with a finishing spray. This helps your powder melt into your skin, giving it a much smoother appearance. It also makes your look last much longer.
Lips can look old really fast. In order to keep your lips looking amazing, I have a couple of tips. First of all, always put on a very nourishing lip product at night. There are so many options: aquaphor, vaseline and even coconut oil.
Second, put a lip plumper on your lips about 30 minutes before you put lipstick on. This helps your lips from having lines in them. Wipe it off before you finish your lips and you have a great luscious lip to work with.
Third, line your lips. My favorite way do my lips is to find a waterproof liner that I like, line my lips. Then, using that same liner, lightly fill in my lips. Then, I go over the top with a lip gloss and rub my lips together. This makes for a very pretty, long lasting lip.
These are my favorite tips that I have learned along the way. They are things that I have added to my daily makeup routine. Once you learn how to do them, it goes very quickly. Let me know if you are interested in a tutorial on how to do any of these items the way I do them.
