My parents have a backyard fence that is covered in grape vines. For more years than I can count, my dad would go outside, pick the grapes and make juice and jelly from the grapes. When Nena was just a tiny baby, I would go over and help my dad A few years ago, he just hit a wall and decided that he just wasn’t up to the task of doing the grape vines on his own. He was ready to let the tradition go.
It just broke my heart and I couldn’t let that tradition die. So, my kiddos and I took over. We started going over and picking the grapes and doing the jelly. The first year, my attempts were not so great. Since that time, I have become much better at the whole grape thing. This year was no exception.
I happened to pick the perfect day to go… the next day it snowed. The kiddos and I spent the day picking the grapes. We ended up filling up two laundry baskets full. We kept some to eat, juiced some and gave some others away.
This year though, I didn’t get any further than juicing the grapes. I filled up several gallon jugs full of grape juice and stuck them in my freezer, where they will probably remain for the next year until I find a free minute to come up with time to turn them into jelly.
We have fun though. Let me know if you are in need of any jelly. If it ever gets made, I am happy to send you some 🙂
