I get asked a lot of questions in life by people that I associate with. It is interesting to me that when people hear a little bit about my life, whether it be from me, mutual friends, facebook or blog interactions, they tend to open up about their own lives and tell me what they, or people that they care about, are going through. I find it one of the biggest compliments that I could receive. In a lot of ways, it makes the experiences in my life, worth it in a sense.
I was asked today about advice when it came to a life decision that someone was going to make. Whereas I love to give advice on simple things such as hobbies, teaching, fashion, etc, I really hesitate giving advice on major life decisions. Instead of giving advice, I tell them my experience, what I went through, what I would do the same and what I would do differently. I tell of my feelings at the time and possible outcomes that people might not be considering when making life altering changes.
Today made me reflect on the advice that people gave me when I was making my life decisions. I talked to many people when I was going through my divorces, deciding what to do for a living, where to move, etc. I got a lot of advice from a lot of different people. Truth be told, I don’t remember a lot of the specifics.
However, there is one piece of advice that I will remember verbatim for the rest of my life. I do not remember the context in which the advice was given. I do not even remember the name of the person giving the advice. I don’t even know if it was given as advice or if it was part of a conversation, but it was life changing. It is now one thought that I try to apply to put into my life and always pass this on to anyone who asks for my thoughts on life changing matters.
Pray to desire the will of God…
Pray that people inspired by God will be put in your path.
These two sentences have been the most powerful words I have ever heard. It applies to everyone. It was given to me by someone not of my faith. It digs to the core of your soul and bypasses any other advice, and puts you in direct communication with God.
In my opinion, God wants us to be able to make our own decisions and to do the best that we can with our agency. Sometimes we get stuck in our mires and need a little direction. This is one way that I have been able to gain clarity. By praying to be directed to the desire of God and to those that are inspired, are His way of helping us in our own agency. What a great mix of divinity and intuition and free will.
